The Utah Fits All Scholarship: using it for speech therapy, tutoring & evaluations

If you’re a Utah family, you may be sitting on education funding you didn’t realize could pay for the help your child actually needs. The Utah Fits All Scholarship gives eligible K–12 students a flexible account to spend on approved education expenses — and for many families, that includes speech therapy, tutoring, and evaluations. Here’s the plain-language version.

What the Utah Fits All Scholarship is

Utah Fits All is the state’s education savings account program. Instead of funding tied to a district school seat, eligible families get an account they can direct toward approved learning expenses from qualifying providers. For the 2025–2026 school year the award is $8,000 for most K–12 students (homeschooled students receive $4,000 for ages 5–11 and $6,000 for ages 12–18). Families can even roll over up to two-thirds of unspent funds each year.

What it can go toward here

The program’s approved expenses reach well beyond curriculum. Among them are the supports families ask us about most:

• Speech-language therapy — services and therapies for students with disabilities, including speech-language and audiology.
• Tutoring & academic intervention — one-on-one help for reading, writing, math, and learning confidence.
• Dyslexia & literacy support — structured, research-informed reading instruction.
• Testing & assessment fees — including norm-referenced assessments that help clarify a child’s needs.
• Other special-needs therapies — occupational, behavioral, and physical therapies for students with disabilities.

Who is eligible — and the catch worth knowing

The scholarship is open to Utah K–12 residents, regardless of income or zip code, as long as the student isn’t enrolled in a public school district when funds are awarded. The one catch: the program is funding-capped, so more families apply than there are funded seats. Applying early and understanding the timeline matters — another thing we’re happy to walk through.

How families actually use it

The scholarship is administered through the Odyssey portal, where families manage funds and work with approved providers. In practice, that usually means one of two paths: an approved provider is paid directly from your account, or you pay up front and submit receipts for reimbursement — keeping records of the date, service, amount, and provider.

Utah Fits All vs. Arizona ESA

We serve families in both Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, and the two programs work differently. Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account program is broadly universal with few restrictions; Utah Fits All is universal in eligibility but currently capped in funding.
