Dyslexia support that works: what structured literacy looks like

Five children reading picture books in a circle under a tree

Maybe reading has become a nightly struggle. Maybe written assignments take far longer than expected. Maybe your child is working hard but still falling behind. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone — and there is a kind of help that consistently works.

What structured literacy means

Structured literacy is research-informed reading instruction that builds skills in a deliberate order, matched to your child’s current level. Instead of hoping reading “clicks,” it directly teaches the building blocks:

  • Phonemic awareness — hearing and working with the sounds inside words.
  • Phonics and decoding — connecting sounds to letters, and letters to words.
  • Word recognition and fluency — reading accurately, then smoothly.
  • Vocabulary and comprehension — understanding what the words mean together.
  • Spelling and written expression — turning reading skills into writing skills.
“Learning grows best when support meets a child right where they are.”

Tutoring, intervention, or an evaluation?

Families often contact us unsure whether their child needs tutoring, a formal educational evaluation, dyslexia support, or a more structured intervention plan. That uncertainty is normal — and it’s exactly what a first conversation is for. We help parents sort through those questions and choose support that fits the child’s needs, schedule, and learning goals.

Can ESA funds cover this?

For many Arizona families, yes — ESA funds can go toward reading and dyslexia intervention, academic tutoring, literacy support, and educational evaluations. We also work with homeschool families and microschool programs that want individualized, flexible instruction.

Progress is monitored along the way, so you always know whether the intervention is working and what should come next.
