How to use ESA funds for autism therapy

If your child is enrolled in Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program, you’re holding something powerful: education funds you can direct toward what your child actually needs. For many families of children on the autism spectrum, that flexibility is life-changing — and surprisingly underused.

Here’s the plain-language version of how it works.

First, what an ESA actually is

An Empowerment Scholarship Account lets Arizona families direct state education funds toward approved educational services and providers instead of a district school program. The key word is direct — you choose where the support goes.

The funds are already set aside for your child’s education. The question is simply where they’ll do the most good.

What ESA funds can go toward here

  • Educational evaluations — understanding how your child learns is the foundation for everything else.
  • Tutoring & reading intervention — targeted, one-on-one help, including dyslexia-informed reading support.
  • Autism & behavior support — evidence-based skill-building and parent training.

Every family’s ESA agreement is a little different, so the honest answer to “is this covered?” is: let’s look at yours together. That’s exactly what the free consultation is for.

How to get started (three steps)

  • 1 · Book a free consultation. Fifteen minutes, no pressure. Bring your questions.
  • 2 · We review what your ESA covers. Together, in plain language.
  • 3 · Care begins. A plan built around your child — funded by the account you already have.

A note for families worried about cost

Money is the most common hesitation we hear — and it’s exactly the problem the ESA program exists to solve. If your child qualifies, the support you’ve been putting off may already be paid for.
