Social-Emotional Support
Help for when feelings are big
Many children know exactly what to do in calm moments — and lose access to all of it when feelings get big. Social-emotional support helps children notice feelings, understand their needs, build coping skills, and take helpful steps in the moments that matter.
What we work on
- Naming feelings — connecting emotions to situations, body cues, and behavior.
- Coping strategies — asking for help, taking a break, calming routines, flexible thinking, and problem-solving steps.
- Real-life practice — role-playing joining a group, handling disappointment, responding to teasing, waiting, sharing, and repairing conflict.
- Friendship & social communication skills — for conversations, classroom participation, and community activities.
- Consistency across settings — coaching parents and consulting with schools so strategies work everywhere.
When it helps
Children may benefit when they have difficulty managing frustration, coping with change, understanding emotions, solving problems with peers, participating in groups, handling anxiety, or recovering from conflict — especially when they know what to do in calm moments but struggle when feelings are big.
The goal is not to change who a child is
It’s to help children better understand themselves, communicate their needs, build confidence, and practice skills that support connection, participation, and emotional well-being.
